AFC Bournemouth’s slow start under Marco Rose: What history tells us about Cherries’ Premier League form

Bournemouth’s slow start under Marco Rose is frustrating but not unprecedented - Cherries On Top have looked at Cherries' record in the first five games of the Premier League season across their 10 top-flight campaigns to place their current form in context.

We’re still deep into the international break, meaning Cherries are still unable to remedy the slow start to the Premier League campaign.

Although Marco Rose has led Cherries to victory in the League Cup and the Europa League, the German is still without a win in the league, with a return of three draws and two defeats in his opening five Premier League matches.

In the Premier League, Cherries have typically been slow starters to the new season. Only in three out of 10 campaigns have they recorded more than one win in their opening five fixtures, all three of which corresponded to top-half perches in the embryonic league table - 2025/26, 2019-20, and 2018-19.
